Due to the recent increase in cases of GBV among minors  in primary schools,  the private schools   in Ibadan have been receiving  trainings and sensitization seminars  on Gender Based Violence with Youthcare  sharing their resource materials and training books with the school management  from one local government to the other.   Dr Adefunke Ekine was a guest speaker at the Parents Teachers’ Association (PTA) meeting at Virtue and Valor Group of School, Akobo on the 4th of June 2022 where she  focused on the harmful effect of GBV on the total development of the child,

She further highlighted the role of teachers in the fight against gender-based violence as she encouraged   teachers to serve as counsellors, protect the victims and penalize the culprits of GBV irrespective of who the perpetrators may be. The school management and parents were both advised to always create safe spaces for the children and stimulate open dialogue. A total number of 36 teachers and 96 parents were empowered. It was indeed a robust discussion and the school promised to partner with Youthcare to eliminate all forms of abuse within the school community. Twenty (20) copies of stakeholders training manual on SRGBV (produced with support from Ford Foundation )  were  donated to the school library and the first set of parents in attendance.
