The graduation ceremony of the First Ambassadors of the Youthcare mentorship program held on Sunday the 29th of November, 2020 started at 3:10 pm with the National Anthem led by a graduand, Miss Damola Ladele. This was followed by the opening prayer taken by Mrs. Akoni, who represented Mrs. Olatutu Odelola of Rosegate Nursery and Primary Schools, Bodija Ibadan. (A board member of YcDEI).

The welcome address was given by the Executive Director, Dr. Adefunke Ekine. She expounded on the background to the formation of the organization and the importance of giving back to the society. This mentorship program for secondary school students according to her was born out of the desire to empower the younger generation. She also appreciated everyone present, and commended the fathers who came to support their children.

 The Chairman of the day Prof. R.O. Akinbote (Former Head of Department, EDF, University of Ibadan Ibadan) spoke on the importance of education and the need to acquire both soft and technical skills in this present day and time in order to be self-reliant. He likened this act to the apprentice practices in the olden days that actually prepared the young ones for the world of works as nobody was jobless in the traditional African society. He further urged the graduands to put their best efforts into it and congratulated the organization for a job well done.

Mr. Timothy Oni the Programme Officer, spoke on how the mentorship program started and further explained that the graduands will be assigned to a mentor as recommended by Youthcare for the next couple of months for further mentoring and empowerment after which they can become a mentor too.  Graduands were all given certificates.

Three of the graduands in the person of Lukman Aishat, Oreoluwa Falola and Faustinus Fabelurin shared testimonies of what they learnt during the course of the programme and how they were influenced by the facilitators.  Also, Mrs Oyebola Oni one of the facilitators of the mentorship class also shared her experience with the students during the classes. More so, two parents a female and a male shared the positive changes they observed in their children within the course of the programme.

In all a total of 17 secondary school students graduated from the mentorship programme. Other participants were their parents, school representatives, the media, friends and well-wishers.

In conclusion, the graduands were prayed for by Rev. Elekima Ekine, and the vote of thanks was given by Miss Adesola Adesokan, a board member of YcDEI.
